Marina Džukljev / Mia Dyberg

Another lockdown success. A duo performance created over the internet, with Danish saxophonist Mia Dyberg based in Berlin, Germany and Serbian pianist Marina Džukljev based in Novi Sad, Serbia. The entire album is fully improvised, which seems surprising at moments because of the quality of the interaction and the almost simultaneous co-creation. Both musicians describe their music as a diary of the lockdown. Even if some pieces are sad, other ones are more joyful and positive. A good remedy of positive thinking. You are about to hear the brand new duo of the renowned Swedish saxophone player based in Berlin – Mia Dyberg. And one of the most active musicians from Serbia – Marina Džukljev. They both have great careers in improvised and experimental music and they have played on many festivals and venues, they are releasing music for labels or around Europe, and playing with a bunch of recognised musicians from all over the world. This CD is their very first collaboration in the form of duo.
Marina Džukljev and Mia Dyberg worked together in different constellations over the last years, with musicians as Tristan Honsinger, Joel Grip,Korhan Erel, Axel Dörner and Rieko Okuda to name a few. The album was made in April 2020, during the lockdown. Each track is improvisation, and it represents our daily diary during that period.

The berlin-based saxophonist Mia Dyberg plays in the fields of Jazz and free improvisation. Her unique melodic expression emerges from sound experiments & scandinavian melancholy. She composes for Mia Dyberg Trio which plays free jazz inspired by Burroughs. Clean Feed Records released Ticket! which was reviewed by jazz magazines such as 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine [USA]. She is a steady member of the dadaistic improv- collective Klub Demboh, playing with Axel Dörner and Tristan Honsinger every Monday. ‘Mia Dyberg is a saxophonist who is well inside the free improvised. But not without having “head and tail” in what she does. Dyberg’s playing is controlled and easy-to-grasp. She has full control of the free but also has a good sense for jazz history’ – Jan Granlie, Salt Peanuts
