HobbyHouse

Hobbyhouse plays avant-garde improvised jazz. Formed by Danish saxophonist Mia Dyberg and Argentinean drummer Axel Filip, Hobbyhouse explores a variety of architectures and playgrounds. In complicity with their inner childs, they explore the textures of wood, toys and found objects. Hobbyhouse values timbral variation and genuineness, and seeks to translate that into sonic story-lines.

You can watch an excerpt of a recent live performance at Kunstverein Norden here:
Mia Dyberg plays in the fields of Jazz and free improvisation. Her unique melodic expression emerges from sound experiments & Scandinavian melancholy. She composes for Mia Dyberg Trio which plays Free Jazz with narrative motifs & timestretch-grooves. Clean Feed Records released Ticket! which got 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine.  She is a steady member of the dadaistic improv-collective Klub Demboh, playing regularly with Axel Dörner, Michael Griner & Antonio Borghini (amongst others). ‘Mia Dyberg is a saxophonist who is well inside the free improvised. But not without having “head and tail” in what she does. Dyberg’s playing is controlled and easy-to-grasp. She has full control of the free but also has a good sense for jazz history’ – Jan Granlie, Salt Peanuts.

Axel Filip is a drummer, composer, improviser and arranger from Cordoba (ARG) currently based in Berlin. He is known for his versatility and ability to perform within a wide range of musical genres, from jazz and popular music to Argentine folk music, avant-garde, free and conducted improvisation.
After a fruitful career in Buenos Aires as a leader/collaborator and sideman, he moved to Europe in 2021 where has been very active, performing and/or recording with Paul Pignon, Camila Nebbia, Michaël Attias, Margaux Oswald, Thiago Duarte and many others, besides leading his quintet Maleza, featuring Mirna Bogdanović, Lisa Hoppe, Joakim Rainer and Mathilde Vendramin.
